I wrote these up about ten years ago; inspired by DC Comics'
imprint Tangent Comics, this is a re-imagining of characters,
pretty much going with the name only...
- HULK: David Bruce is a scientist who is exposed to gamma radiation. He's
dying, so he builds an armoured survival suit to keep himself alive. It's
expensive, so he becomes a hero-for-hire to support the costs.
- SCARLET WITCH: Wanda Maximoff is Earth's Sorceress Supreme... and a
vampire.
- THE DEFENDERS: The government-authorised supergroup of the USA. Led by
Captain America (solder turned superhero, powers of flight, superstrength,
force field, force bolts), the team consists of Hawkeye (bird man), Iron Man
(magnetic powers), Vision (illusionist), Black Widow (spider/human hybrid) and
Daredevil (woman with luck-based powers.)
- FANTASTIC FOUR: Led by The Thing (Ben Grimm, shapeshifter), this band of
heroes consist of Mister Fantastic (Johnny Storm - can turn his body into any
element), Ghost Rider (Danny Blaze - recently returned from the dead, he can
'step' into other people's bodies and 'ride' them, controlling them) and Black
Bolt (Luke Cage, a superspeedster).
- THE AVENGERS: a band of mutants who band together to avenge what's been
done to their fellow muties. (see below for detailed roster.)
THE WORLD: Mutants are persecuted. They're 2nd class citizens. President J.
Jonah Jameson was elected on an anti-mutant platform. The greatest threat is the
mutant-sympathetic terrorist organisation APOCALYPSE, led by "Doctor Doom".
"Professor X", Reed Richards is working to solve "the mutant problem" - the
government thinks he's on their side, the mutants think he's on theirs... but
only he knows for sure.
Stephen Strange, known as "The Vanisher", helms the Mutant Underground
Railroad, taking them to Canada, where it's safe to be a mutant.
Sentinels are armoured soldiers who are specifically trained to deal with
mutants. Captain America used to be one before acquiring superhuman abilities.
The Hobgoblin, the lord of nightmares, is the biggest supernatural threat,
keeping The Scarlet Witch rather busy.
The Avengers roster:
- Rogue - team leader, teleporter - female criminal turned hero
- Iceman - named so for his emotions, former marine. Mutant power of combat
senses.
- Shadowcat - young man who can turn into a panther or a
half-human/half-panther form.
- Mimic - she can duplicate the appearance of anyone she's ever touched,
down to body language, voice, fingerprints, pheromones, dna
- Bishop - Elder man, former bishop of church, has telepathic powers
(including ability to make them face their sins.)
- Thunderbird - native american woman (Dani Moonstar) with weather-control
powers
